Join the journey

Creativity is tempered by fire

Stories are a gateway for not just understanding our inner selves, but they also become the tapestry which connects each and every one of us. Whether fictional or real, every story contains a truth that resonates. Here I attempt to tell you, my truth. Bush Stories are the nuggets of wisdom I find on this road called life. But why the "bush"?

Well, in times of trouble and tribulation, I feel like sometimes I'm "in the bush". The outside world is a dry and hostile environment and yet the Aussie landscape is beautiful. Regal and wondrous. Ancient. It's a metaphor you see.

A "wacker" on the other hand can mean many things. Foolish or crazy but most importantly, a friend. The second half of this blog is dedicated to my community of creatives, my pen pals, from far and wide.

So, welcome to Bushwacker Stories.

Realised or not,

Stories are situated in place and belonging

I have written stories for as long as I can remember but I cannot imagine the thought of a single story being passed down for thousands of years; for a story to be told, understood and then evolve; for stories to be living connections, breathed upon and shared like the firing neurons behind every single idea.

And so, I write from my home in Cabramatta. I hope to add my voice to the practice of storytelling on Cabrogal Land. In the spirit of reconciliation, Bushwacker Stories acknowledges the oldest living culture in the world, and we pay our deepest respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We acknowledge their ongoing connection to physical, spiritual and written place.

The Aim

Welcome to Bushwacker, a platform where personal stories and inspiring photography come together to spread hard-fought creativity. Here we scrounge for gold in a sometimes fruitful, but most times busy, modern world. My mission is to create a supportive creative community, something that we lose in the backdrop of hurry and isolation. We do this through the power of storytelling and images. For me community is what I crave for: online or in person; local or internationally. Here, the writing journey can become a collaborative space. Join us in our mission to share uplifting content that resonates with the soul but also speaks to the dry and cracked places inside you. My door is always open.

There may be no better way to communicate what we do than through images. As you browse our site, take a few moments to let your eyes linger here, and see if you can get a feel for the intention and care behind each shot.

Dear Fellow Web Traveller,

Be sure to send an entry and contribute your story to the discourse of resilience and add your portion to the battle of everyday, large and small either as a Bashwacker or Pen Mate. Whether finance, relationships, or career goals, the plight you face is important so please, do not be afraid to add your voice to the conversation.

I would like to say that I am a co-creator. After all I intend to post stories that not only belong to me, but to my friends and greater community. Hi, my name is Amanda, and I am proud to say I am based in Sydney Southwest. As I learn to adult, it seems that the everyday does not get voiced enough. So big or small, I invite you to share your story.
